You can't create your own factions like in GalCiv3, but the factions available to you have unique mechanics and units to better differentiate themselves from each other, and the game otherwise has a good degree of customization options for decent replayability.
The game's one major drawback is that it doesn't have any form of tactical combat, a feature I miss greatly.Īge of Wonders: Planetfall is more your classic planetary sci-fi setting. Galactic Civilizations III is set in space, has a moderate level of depth & complexity, and (thanks to its numerous game customization options) boasts a high degree of replayability. Really, though, it depends on which aspects of 4x games you enjoy.
